Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, a solid work ethic, and a positive, proactive attitude.
Responsibilities:
- Block out, implement, and optimise complex and dynamic lighting, including gameplay‑driven, ambient, and cinematic lighting setups, ensuring seamless integration from prototype to final implementation.
- Collaborate with Art, Design, and Creative teams to interpret and uphold the quality bar of the game’s lighting, ensuring a consistent and cohesive visual identity.
- Actively participate in content reviews, giving creative input and incorporating feedback to improve the quality of game content.
- Follow best pipeline practices for content creation, optimisation, and performance, ensuring lighting work meets visual quality standards and runs smoothly across target platforms.
- Proactively communicate and collaborate across discipline teams to help uphold the game’s quality bar and delivery requirements.
- Work closely with your Leads and the Production team to help prioritise tasks and feedback, raise issues, and deliver high‑quality work on time.
Essential:
- Proven lighting experience within games, with a portfolio demonstrating a strong understanding of the lighting pipeline and quality expectations, showcasing a variety of modern, high‑quality real‑time PBR lighting work within an established style.
- Strong understanding of game lighting creation for Unreal Engine, including tech such as Lumen, VSMs, atmospherics/volumetrics, Lightmass, mesh distance fields, post‑process effects, exposure control, and colour grading.
- Experience with profiling and optimising lighting setups for a variety of platforms using tools such as RenderDoc or Unreal Insights.
- Experience creating LUTs or colour‑grading profiles.
- Familiarity with GPU Lightmass or baked GI workflows.
- Demonstrated core lighting skills and command of fundamentals such as composition, value control, colour theory, mood, readability, and guiding player attention.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work positively in a team environment.
- Ability to manage your time effectively and own end-to-end delivery of your work.
- A passion for gaming and a drive to deliver visually stunning and captivating gaming experiences.
Desirable:
- Understanding of Blueprint and other approaches to create bespoke Unreal lighting solutions and systems.
- Understanding of cinematography and photography fundamentals such as exposure, composition, colour theory, contrast, lens behaviour, and how light interacts with subjects to create mood and visual focus.
- Skills in any adjacent areas such as Cinematics, Concept Art, Environment Art, etc.
- Previous shipped title(s) within a relevant game art production pipeline.
