Role ID: FLX-R115
Role:
The Lead QA Tester leads testing activity for assigned projects and workstreams across internal projects and co-development partnerships. The role combines extensive testing experience with team coordination, test planning and quality reporting to provide a clear understanding of game quality and delivery readiness.
The role will initially support a realistic motorsport racing simulation, coordinating QA coverage and contributing directly to testing. Responsibilities and project assignments will evolve as existing projects develop and new projects are commissioned.
Working closely with QA colleagues, Engineering, Design and Production, you will define test priorities, maintain test plans and ensure findings are communicated clearly. You will use dashboards and build statistics to track testing progress, identify recurring issues and highlight risks that require attention.
The role requires sound judgement, clear leadership and a practical approach to delivery, alongside the ability to support testers and maintain consistent reporting standards.
Responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day QA activity for assigned workstreams, coordinating priorities and ensuring testers understand their responsibilities.
- Create and maintain test plans that reflect project requirements, development changes and areas of risk.
- Plan functional, exploratory and regression testing, balancing available capacity with coverage needs.
- Maintain QA dashboards and build statistics, providing clear visibility of testing progress, defects and build quality.
- Review defect reports for clarity, reproducibility and supporting evidence, helping testers improve reporting standards.
- Coordinate defect triage with development teams, communicating severity, player impact and verification needs.
- Carry out hands-on testing and support the investigation of complex or intermittent issues.
- Track fix verification and regression coverage, highlighting unresolved issues and incomplete testing.
- Provide clear quality assessments to Production and development leads, explaining the evidence and limitations behind recommendations.
- Mentor and support testers through practical guidance, feedback and knowledge sharing.
- Identify recurring quality problems and improve test processes, documentation and team workflows.
- Communicate resource needs, dependencies and delivery risks early enough for the team to respond.
Essential:
- 15+ years’ relevant experience in games QA, including experience leading testing activity.
- Proven experience operating as a Lead QA Tester or equivalent, coordinating testers and maintaining quality standards.
- Strong experience creating, maintaining and executing test plans.
- Practical experience developing and maintaining QA dashboards and build statistics.
- Strong understanding of functional, exploratory and regression testing.
- Experience managing defect workflows, including report review, triage, fix verification and closure.
- Ability to prioritise testing based on risk, recent changes and the impact of defects on players.
- Strong investigation skills, with the ability to guide reproducible testing and support difficult defect analysis.
- Experience mentoring testers and providing clear, constructive feedback.
- Strong communication and planning skills, including presenting quality findings to technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Ability to remain involved in hands-on testing while coordinating the wider QA workload.
Desirable:
- Experience testing racing or simulation games.
- Experience testing vehicle behaviour, race rules, timing systems or game settings.
- Experience validating different input devices, including controllers and steering wheel peripherals.
- Experience coordinating online multiplayer test sessions.
- Familiarity with console testing and platform technical requirements.
- Experience supporting release readiness reviews and testing post-release updates.
- Experience working within co-development partnerships and coordinating with external QA teams.
- Previous shipped title(s) in a senior or lead QA capacity.
