Associate Tools Developer
UK Remote or West Midlands-based / Full-Time Contractor
Please note: We welcome applicants who prefer to work from home; however, we cannot offer visa sponsorship for this opportunity at this time.
Role Overview:
We are searching for an Associate Tools Developer who will design & develop internal tools to streamline communication channels, improve operational workflows, and create new innovative developer tools to assist with games development projects.
You will be working across a variety of technologies and projects, from internal web applications and communication tools to developer utilities, automation, data integrations, and bespoke platforms. You will be encouraged to experiment with tool creation platforms, learn from mistakes, and take ownership of your work as you develop your skills.
This is an opportunity for someone who is ambitious, curious, and hungry to learn. You don’t need to come from the games industry, nor have programming experience or a technical degree. We are particularly interested in people who enjoy designing things, solving problems, and learning new technologies.
If you are a young professional eager to prove yourself in a fun, supportive environment, we would love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:
CREATE – develop internal tools and platforms from scratch.
SOLVE – identify and solve pipeline and workflow problems.
COLLABORATE – partner with departments, colleagues, and clients to understand what the ideal solution is for all stakeholders long-term.
EXPERIMENT – find out if there are opportunities to build practical solutions to automate repetitive tasks and remove labour-intensive work to increase efficiency.
LEARN – speak with the team to understand what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and then translate those understandings into practical technical solutions.
INVESTIGATE – you are curious about game engines and game development concepts such as scripting, exporters, data processing, packaging, and deployment.
DRIVE – maximise developer efficiency and product quality.
Essential skills:
- You have built or improved processes through tooling and can give examples of this.
- A team player and willing to take responsibility.
- Excellent feel for UI and tool design.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted tools such as Replit.
- Take constructive criticism and be open to discuss issues or requests with end users.
- Open-minded, willing to experiment and iterate over a specific feature.
- Ambition and enthusiasm to develop as an engineer and take on increasing responsibility.
- Some experience building applications, tools, websites, university projects, personal projects, or other software outside of formal employment.
Desirable skills:
- If you enjoy video games, then you can either beat Malenia in Elden Ring, or the Valkyrie Queen in God of War (2018).
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is hungry to learn, excited to build, comfortable asking questions, and motivated to make a meaningful contribution to a growing team. No programming experience or technical degree is required for this role.
