
Intermediate Gameplay Engineer
UK Remote or West Midlands Based – Birmingham / Full-Time Contractor

Role and Purpose:
As an Intermediate Gameplay Engineer, you will be responsible for developing reliable, scalable game systems that support engaging player experiences. You will contribute across gameplay, backend services, player accounts, user-generated content, and technical integrations, working closely with design, art, QA, and engineering colleagues to deliver high-quality features.
Responsibilities:
- Gameplay and Game Systems Development:
- Develop and maintain gameplay features and supporting game systems, ensuring they are performant, maintainable, and aligned with design requirements.
- Contribute to player-facing functionality, including gameplay interactions and basic UI implementation where required.
- Backend and Data Integration:
- Support the development and integration of backend systems, including player accounts, game services, and user data.
- Build and maintain serialisation and data-management solutions, including JSON workflows and user-generated content data.
- Tools and Technical Integration:
- Develop tools, pipelines, and integrations that improve development efficiency and support the wider development team.
- Work with technologies across C#, Java, and TypeScript where appropriate to connect gameplay functionality with backend systems.
- Collaboration and Quality:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into practical and technically sound solutions.
- Investigate issues, support debugging and testing, and help ensure systems are stable and ready for release.
Requirements:
- Experience developing game systems, backend services, tools, or technical integrations.
- Proficiency in C++ and C#, with familiarity in Java and TypeScript-based services.
- Experience with JSON serialisation, data management, and user-generated content systems.
- Understanding of player account systems, backend services, and client-to-server integrations.
- Familiarity with gameplay feature development and basic UI implementation.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to working with other disciplines.
