VFX Artist

UK Remote or West Midlands Based – Birmingham/Worcestershire Area

Role and Purpose:

We are looking for a skilled and motivated individual to help develop, own and deliver visually stunning and immersive game VFX that will captivate imaginations and enhance gaming experiences, both for Flix’s own internal projects and our high profile co-development partners. As a key component of our VFX team, you will utilise your technical abilities and creativity to breathe life into game content, contributing to the overall immersion and player experience. Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, solid work ethic and a positive, proactive attitude.

Responsibilities:

  • Block out, create, implement and optimise complex and dynamic visual effects, including gameplay-driven, ambient and cinematic content – ensuring seamless integration from prototype to final implementation.
  • Collaborate with Art, Design and Creative teams to interpret and uphold the quality bar of the game’s effects, ensuring a consistent and cohesive visual identity.
  • Actively participate in content reviews, giving creative input and incorporating feedback to improve the quality of game content.
  • Follow best pipeline practices for content creation, optimization, and performance, ensuring work meets visual quality standards and runs smoothly across target platforms.
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate across discipline teams to help uphold the game’s quality bar and delivery requirements.
  • Work closely with your Leads and the Production team to help prioritize tasks and feedback, raise issues, and deliver high-quality work on time.

Requirements:

  • Proven VFX experience within games, with a showreel demonstrating a strong understanding of VFX pipeline and quality, with a variety of modern, high quality real-time content for games within an established style.
  • Strong understanding of game VFX creation for Unreal Engine, including Niagara, and the ability to create advanced materials, post process effects and lighting if required.
  • High proficiency in creating original content for game effects, such as textures, 3D assets and simulations using external toolsets such as Blender, Substance, Photoshop as required.
  • Demonstrated core VFX skills and command of fundamentals such as as timing, shape language, weight and motion.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work positively in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage your time effectively and own end-to-end delivery of your work.
  • A passion for gaming and a drive to deliver visually stunning and captivating gaming experiences.

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with tools such as Embergen, Illugen and Houdini.
  • Skills in any adjacent areas such as Lighting, Animation, Concept Art, Blueprint etc.
  • Previous shipped title(s) within a relevant game art production pipeline.
