Financial Controller

UK Remote or West Midlands Based – Birmingham/Worcestershire Area

Role and Purpose

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Financial Controller to join our team. The Financial Controller will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of financial operations, from transaction processing to financial reporting. This role demands a strong aptitude for financial principles, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with team members.

Responsibilities

Financial Transactions:

  • Process and record financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial records.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with financial policies and regulations.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of budgets.
  • Monitor and report on budget variances.
  • Support financial forecasting and planning activities.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare financial reports, statements, and analyses for management.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Assist with financial audits as required.

Vendor Management:

  • Maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and financial service providers.
  • Verify and process invoices and purchase orders.
  • Assist in negotiation and contract management.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain financial records, including invoices, receipts, and contracts.
  • Assist in the preparation of tax documents and filings.

Data Analysis:

  • Analyse financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to support decision-making.

Administrative Support:

  • Provide administrative assistance to the finance team as needed.
  • Handle inquiries from employees and external parties regarding financial matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Strong understanding of financial principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Excel, ERP systems).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and compliance standards.
  • An understanding of the game development process.
  • Prior experience in running a small independent studio or running departments is a plus.
  • Prior experience with grant applications, pitching, and production is a plus.
