Senior Animator

UK Remote or West Midlands Based – Birmingham/Worcestershire Area

Role and Purpose

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Senior Animator to help lead and create high quality Animation for AAA projects, both for Flix’s own proprietary projects and high profile co-collaboration partners. In this senior position, the candidate would oversee animation projects, train less experienced animators, and be instrumental in determining the artistic direction our games take.

Responsibilities

  • Design and create high-quality character animations, creature movements, and object interactions.
  • Bring characters to life through expressive and believable performances, capturing their personalities and emotions.
  • Animate various in-game elements, such as environments, special effects, and interactive objects.
  • Collaborate with game designers and artists to understand character personalities, backstories, and gameplay requirements.
  • Conceptualize and prototype animations to match the vision for the characters and their role in the game.
  • Utilize both motion capture data and keyframe animation techniques to achieve realistic and stylized animations.
  • Clean and edit motion capture data to ensure seamless integration into the game.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the animation pipeline and workflow to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Work closely with the development team to create and optimize animation tools and systems.
  • Assisting leads and collaborating with team members, providing and receiving feedback to refine animations and maintain a cohesive art style.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on game design and animation requirements.
  • Mentor and guide other animators, assisting them in their professional growth and development.
  • Lead animation initiatives, set standards, and be a source of inspiration for the animation team.


Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Level 2 Animator in the games industry, with a strong portfolio demonstrating a range of animation styles and techniques.
  • Proficiency in industry standard animation software including Maya, Blender, or equivalent.
  • Experience with motion capture technology and data cleaning/editing processes.
  • Solid understanding of character anatomy, movement, and performance principles.
  • Excellent storytelling and cinematic skills, with the ability to create emotionally impactful animations.
  • Strong knowledge of animation pipelines and best practices in games development.
  • Familiarity with game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine) and animation integration processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with other disciplines.
  • Leadership capabilities, with the ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
  • Passion for gaming and a commitment to delivering visually compelling and engaging animation experiences.


Desirable Skills

  • Ability to build game ready locomotion animations for biped and non-biped characters.
  • Experience animating high quality characters for third and first person adventure games.
  • Knowledge of sequencer for cinematic animations.
  • Experience animating special effects.
  • A solid understanding of composition and cinematography.
