Senior Artist

UK Remote or West Midlands Based – Birmingham/Worcestershire Area

Position Overview:

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to play a central role in crafting visually stunning and immersive game content that captivates players’ imaginations and enhances their gaming experience. You will collaborate closely with the art director, level designers, and other team members to create high quality artwork that seamlessly blends aesthetics, gameplay, and storytelling.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with and guide the Art team to design, model, texture, and implement intricate and captivating game art, including environments and props, hard-surface and organic.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the Head of Art, and Design and Art teams to establish and uphold the quality bar of the game’s artwork, ensuring a consistent and cohesive visual identity.
  • Help manage the day-to-day progress of the team and ensure compliance with project specific update/feedback/production processes.
  • Champion best pipeline practices for asset creation, optimization, and performance, ensuring artwork meets visual quality standards and runs smoothly across target platforms.
  • Work alongside Design, Tech and Production teams to help define and scope content, considering dependencies and bottlenecks.
  • Lead by example, keeping an enthusiastic attitude for the project whilst motivating and supporting a diverse team of artists.
  • Participate in staff interviews, onboarding, mentorship programmes and performance reviews, fostering skill development and artistic growth.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and artistic techniques to continually push the boundaries of game art and contribute fresh ideas to the team.


Requirements:

  • Professional experience in a senior artistic role for video games, with a proven track record of creating high-quality and engaging artwork.
  • Experienced with the art production pipeline for Unreal Engine content.
  • High level of understanding of game art content creation including the full modelling, texturing, material, and lighting authoring process.
  • Proficient in relevant industry-standard software such as Maya, Photoshop, Substance, ZBrush or equivalents.
  • An understanding of design theory, including composition, framing, and general game feel.
  • Excellent understanding of art fundamentals, including composition, colour theory, form and structure, and lighting, to create compelling artwork.
  • Strong support-focused interpersonal skills, able to communicate, collaborate and mentor effectively.
  • Manage your time effectively, be able to delegate and prioritise based on project need.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • A passion for gaming and a commitment to delivering visually stunning and captivating gaming experiences.


Desirable Skills

  • High proficiency with real-time dynamic lighting setups, able to use light and atmospherics to enhance a scene.
  • Shipped at least one title in a Senior position, within a relevant game art production pipeline.
  • Solid 2D art skills, including the ability to create concept art and paint-overs to guide development.
  • Skills in any adjacent areas such as Niagara, Blueprint, Concept Art, Character Art, Animation, Level Design etc.
