
Senior Gameplay Engineer
UK Remote or West Midlands-based / Full-Time Contractor

Role:
As a Senior Gameplay Engineer, you will develop high-quality gameplay systems that are responsive, scalable, and maintainable. You will work closely with design, animation, AI, and QA teams to create polished player experiences across cooperative multiplayer, combat, progression, survival, crafting, building, and exploration systems.
Responsibilities:
- Gameplay Systems Development:
- Design, implement, and maintain complex gameplay systems using C++, Blueprints, and appropriate software design patterns.
- Develop features that support player progression, combat, survival, crafting, building, exploration, and other core player experiences.
- AI, Animation, and Multiplayer Integration:
- Integrate gameplay features with AI, animation, player controls, replication, and other core game systems.
- Work closely with relevant disciplines to ensure gameplay interactions are responsive, reliable, and suitable for cooperative multiplayer experiences.
- Technical Quality and Problem Solving:
- Investigate, debug, and resolve complex gameplay issues, ensuring solutions are performant, maintainable, and appropriately tested.
- Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions, and gameplay architecture decisions, applying strong engineering patterns and best practices.
- Team Contribution and Delivery:
- Collaborate with production, design, art, QA, and engineering to plan gameplay work, communicate technical risks, and support predictable delivery.
- Mentor and support other engineers, sharing practical knowledge of gameplay development and effective engineering practices.
Essential:
- Strong hands-on experience developing gameplay systems in C++ and modern game-development environments.
- Advanced knowledge of Blueprint-based workflows, gameplay architecture, and software design patterns.
- Experience integrating gameplay features with AI, animation, multiplayer replication, and core game systems.
- Familiarity with cooperative multiplayer, open-world, survival, crafting, building, or progression-based gameplay systems.
- Strong debugging, optimisation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to mentor engineers and communicate technical decisions clearly across multidisciplinary teams.
