Role:

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Senior/Lead Mission Designer to help develop and deliver compelling gameplay experiences across Flix’s own internal projects and our high-profile co-development partners. As a key member of our Design team, you will utilise your creativity, technical understanding and leadership experience to design engaging missions, encounters and player experiences that bring game worlds to life.

Working closely with Design, Art, Code, Narrative and Production teams, you will take ownership of mission design from initial concept and prototyping through to implementation, iteration and final polish. You will also help mentor other designers and maintain a high design quality bar across the project.

Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, a solid work ethic and a positive, proactive attitude, alongside a passion for creating memorable gameplay experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and delivery of missions, objectives, encounters and gameplay scenarios from initial concept through to implementation and final polish.
  • Define and maintain high-quality mission design standards, ensuring missions support the game’s creative vision, gameplay and narrative.
  • Lead, mentor and support other designers, providing constructive feedback and contributing to a collaborative and creative team environment.
  • Collaborate closely with programmers, artists, animators, narrative designers and producers to deliver cohesive, achievable and engaging gameplay experiences.
  • Create clear mission design documentation, including mission flows, objectives, encounter structures, gameplay requirements and implementation specifications.
  • Prototype, playtest and iterate on missions, using player feedback, team feedback and available game data to refine and improve the experience.
  • Identify and communicate design risks, dependencies and production challenges, working with Leads and Production to find effective solutions.
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of mission design work, ensuring it meets the project’s creative, gameplay and quality requirements.

Essential:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Mission Designer, Lead Mission Designer, Senior Game Designer or equivalent within the games industry.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating experience designing and delivering missions, gameplay scenarios and player experiences.
  • Strong understanding of mission design principles including objectives, pacing, player motivation, progression, difficulty and encounter design.
  • Experience working with game engines and/or proprietary development tools such as Unreal Engine, Unity or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to mentor designers and work effectively across disciplines.
  • Strong problem-solving and playtesting skills, with the ability to take ownership of designs from concept through to final implementation.

Desirable:

  • Experience leading or mentoring a team of mission or game designers.
  • Experience working on AAA games or high-profile co-development projects.
  • Experience designing missions for action, adventure, RPG, shooter or open-world games.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine Blueprint, visual scripting, mission scripting or proprietary quest tools.
  • Experience integrating narrative, dialogue, cinematics or environmental storytelling into gameplay.
  • Previous shipped title(s) within a relevant game design or production pipeline.
