Role ID: FLX-R101
Role:
We are looking for a skilled and highly productive Senior Level Artist to help create and deliver compelling game environments across our internal projects and high-profile co-development partnerships. As a key member of our Art team, you will combine artistic judgement, technical understanding and production experience to build detailed, atmospheric environments that support gameplay and bring game worlds to life.
The role will initially support a first-person sci-fi action-horror title, with a focus on environment art, level composition and environmental storytelling. Responsibilities and project assignments will evolve as existing projects develop and new projects are commissioned.
Working closely with Art, Design, Technical Art and Production teams, you will take ownership of environment and level art from initial visual development and scene construction through to iteration, optimisation and final polish. You will work independently across substantial areas of a level, maintain a consistently high quality bar and support other artists through constructive feedback and practical guidance.
Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, a reliable and productive approach to delivery, and a positive, proactive attitude, alongside a passion for creating memorable game environments.
Responsibilities:
- Own the creation and delivery of level art and environments from initial layout and visual development through to final polish.
- Translate art direction and gameplay requirements into cohesive, atmospheric spaces, using strong composition, scale, material definition and visual storytelling.
- Build and refine environments through asset placement, set dressing and scene composition, maintaining visual consistency across assigned areas.
- Collaborate closely with Level Design to support navigation, gameplay readability, encounter spaces and the intended player experience.
- Work with environment artists, lighting artists and technical artists to resolve visual and technical challenges.
- Maintain a high standard of quality and productivity, planning work effectively and communicating progress, dependencies and risks.
- Review environments in-game and respond to artistic, design and technical feedback throughout production.
- Work within agreed performance budgets and asset specifications, supporting environment optimisation alongside technical teams.
- Share knowledge and provide constructive feedback to other artists, contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Essential:
- 15 years’ relevant experience in level art, environment art or closely related game art roles.
- Proven experience operating as a Senior Level Artist, Senior Environment Artist or equivalent within the games industry.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality game environments, level composition, set dressing and attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of composition, form, scale, colour, materials and environmental storytelling.
- Experience assembling and refining environments within a game engine, with an understanding of real-time environment art workflows.
- Ability to interpret art direction and translate it into consistent, production-ready environments that support gameplay.
- A highly productive and organised approach, with the ability to independently own substantial areas of work through to completion.
- Understanding of the relationship between environment detail, visual quality and real-time performance.
- Strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond effectively to feedback.
Desirable:
- Experience creating environments for first-person, sci-fi, action or horror games.
- Experience working on AAA titles or high-profile co-development projects.
- Experience with modular environment workflows and reusable asset libraries.
- Experience using environmental storytelling and set dressing to establish atmosphere and reinforce narrative.
- Experience supporting environment optimisation and final visual polish.
- Experience mentoring artists or contributing to improvements in art workflows and quality standards.
- Previous shipped title(s) in a level art or environment art capacity.
