
Senior Rendering Engineer
UK Remote or West Midlands-based / Full-Time Contractor

Role:
As a Senior Rendering and Optimisation Engineer, you will develop and improve rendering systems, visual performance, and technical foundations that support a high-quality player experience. You will work hands-on to diagnose performance bottlenecks, optimise complex systems, and help ensure the game performs reliably across target hardware and platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Rendering Systems Development:
- Develop, maintain, and improve rendering features and supporting technical systems to achieve the required visual quality and performance.
- Investigate graphics-related issues and work with art and engineering teams to deliver practical, scalable solutions.
- Performance Profiling and Optimisation:
- Profile CPU, GPU, memory, loading, and runtime performance to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
- Optimise game systems, assets, and rendering workloads while balancing visual quality, stability, and platform requirements.
- Platform Engineering:
- Support technical development across console and PC environments, accounting for platform-specific constraints and performance characteristics.
- Help identify risks early, resolve platform-specific technical issues, and support a consistent player experience across supported hardware.
- Technical Collaboration and Quality:
- Partner with artists, designers, QA, and engineers to communicate performance budgets, technical risks, and optimisation opportunities.
- Contribute to technical planning, code reviews, debugging, and engineering best practices across the project.
Essential:
- Strong hands-on experience in rendering, optimisation, and game-engine development.
- Strong understanding of graphics performance, profiling tools, CPU and GPU bottlenecks, memory use, and runtime optimisation.
- Experience supporting game development across console and PC platforms, including platform-specific performance considerations.
- Ability to diagnose complex technical problems and deliver robust, maintainable solutions.
- Strong systems-thinking skills and an effective approach to collaborating with art and engineering disciplines.
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain technical constraints and trade-offs to multidisciplinary teams.
