Role ID: FLX-R108
Role:
The Senior UX/UI Developer designs and implements clear, visually cohesive user interfaces across internal projects and co-development partnerships. The role combines UX design, UI art and technical implementation to create interfaces that communicate information effectively and support the player experience.
The role will initially support an unreleased third-person action RPG, with a focus on UI/UX design and implementation in Unreal Engine 5. Responsibilities and project assignments will evolve as existing projects develop and new projects are commissioned.
Working closely with Design, Art, Engineering and Production, you will take ownership of assigned interfaces from initial user flows and storyboards through to in-engine implementation, iteration and final polish. You will draw on experience with UMG, widgets, materials, 2D textures and graphic design to translate creative direction into functional game interfaces.
The role requires strong visual judgement, technical problem-solving and clear communication, alongside the ability to work independently and help maintain consistent interface standards.
Responsibilities:
- Own the design and implementation of assigned UI features from initial concepts and user flows through to final polish.
- Create storyboards, wireframes and interface layouts that communicate intended interactions, screen transitions and information hierarchy.
- Develop UI artwork, graphic elements and 2D textures that align with the project’s visual direction.
- Implement interfaces in Unreal Engine 5 using UMG, creating and maintaining reusable widgets and layouts.
- Create and refine UI materials and visual treatments, balancing artistic goals with technical requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers to connect interface elements to game systems and ensure that UI states and feedback reflect gameplay accurately.
- Work with designers to make complex information understandable and support clear, consistent player interactions.
- Iterate on interfaces using playtesting, usability feedback and input from other disciplines.
- Investigate and resolve visual, layout and implementation issues across supported screen sizes and input methods.
- Maintain organised UI assets and document relevant design patterns, widget behaviour and implementation requirements.
- Work with technical colleagues to identify UI performance issues and improve implementation efficiency.
- Share knowledge and provide constructive feedback, supporting consistent quality across the team’s UI work.
Essential:
- 9 years’ relevant experience in UX/UI development, technical UI art, UX/UI design or closely related game development roles.
- Proven experience operating as a Senior UX/UI Developer or equivalent, independently delivering interface work.
- Advanced practical experience implementing game interfaces in Unreal Engine 5.
- Strong knowledge of UMG and widget-based UI development, including layout, styling and reusable interface components.
- Experience creating and integrating 2D textures and UI materials within a real-time engine.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating UI art, graphic design and functional in-game interface implementation.
- Strong understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, colour, composition and interface consistency.
- Experience developing user flows, storyboards or wireframes to communicate interface behaviour.
- Ability to translate design requirements and art direction into usable, technically achievable interfaces.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to take work from concept through to final implementation.
Desirable:
- Experience designing or implementing interfaces for third-person action games or RPGs.
- Experience with inventory, equipment, progression, quest or combat-related interfaces.
- Experience using Unreal Engine Blueprints to support widget behaviour and UI interactions.
- Familiarity with controller navigation and interfaces that support multiple input methods.
- Knowledge of accessible UI design, including readability, contrast and clear interaction feedback.
- Experience creating UI animation, transitions or material-driven effects.
- Experience reviewing widget performance and supporting UI optimisation.
- Experience mentoring colleagues or maintaining shared UI design and implementation standards.
- Previous shipped title(s) in a UX/UI development, technical UI art or UX/UI design capacity.
