UI Programmer

UK Remote or West Midlands Based – Birmingham/Worcestershire Area

Role and Purpose

We are looking for talented and motivated individuals to help develop and deliver high-quality game code for AAA Unreal Engine projects, both for Flix’s own proprietary projects and high profile co-development partners.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with the UI Team to develop fully realised and working game UI. 
  • Communicate and collaborate with the Programming and Design Teams to assist in delivering polished and immersive UI that meet design and technical requirements. 
  • Work within the specification guidelines of the project and technology, keeping performance in mind as well as working with others to debug potential issues. 
  • Profiling and optimising code for memory and performance considerations. 
  • Be responsible for scoping tasks, working to deadlines, and communicating with production if problems arise. 
  • Liaise with design and production to establish achievable goals.
  • Communicate with QA to help track down and fix bugs.

Requirements

  • 1 year of professional experience producing game UI with C++.
  • A good working knowledge of C++ and experience producing production quality code.
  • Games specific UI experience including animation and a design eye for detail on layouts and usability for UX.
  • Strong understanding of content structure and management code bases with the ability to quickly learn existing code bases.
  • Good level of debugging skills across all required languages, with the ability to perform profiling and optimisation.
  • Able to quickly create prototypes to match design criteria.
  • Ability to put together high-quality production UI systems for both single and multiplayer games.

Desirable Skills

  • Multiplayer development experience.
  • Experienced with giving and receiving code reviews.
  • Knowledge of other areas of game creation.
  • Experience developing for and deploying to a console (Xbox One, PS4 or other).
  • Experience working on and maintaining live games.
  • 1 year of Unreal Engine 4 experience. Demonstrate excellent understanding of Unreal Engines tools.
  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine 4 blueprint and UMG logic and gameplay logic assemblies.
  • professional experience with front end web development HTML5 / CSS / JavaScript (Typescript preferred).
  • Experience with Coherent UI for Unreal Engine using Coherent Gameface.

  • Create high quality UML for planning the correct structure for your code. 
  • Create prototypes and wireframes to demonstrate intent across all stages of development, from design to implementation. 
  • Be adaptive and master new tools in the process if required. 
  • Take critique and guidance from others well. 
  • Manage your time effectively to achieve the highest quality results.
